Saturday, May 20, in Kyiv at the stadium “Dynamo” them. V. Lobanovsky will host the match of the twenty-seventh round of the Ukrainian Premier League football, which will play Luhansk “Zorya” and Petrovsky “Ingulets”. The starting whistle of referee Oleksandr Omelchenko from Slavyansk will sound at 14:00 Kyiv time.

Dawn

For the first time in many years in Ukrainian football, at the end of the next season, the championship race is not a competition between two teams. Zorya Lugansk continues to keep the intrigue as a shadow contender, while quite straining Shakhtar Donetsk and Dnipro-1 Dnipro with their game conditions with their presence. Dutch specialist Patrick van Leeuwen only this season got a chance to show himself at the level of an “adult” team in Ukrainian football, and at the moment his pen test seems to be very successful.

There is simply no team in the UPL in the second round that could boast of only one loss of points in the previous 11 matches. “Muzhiki” could not cope with only one opponent during this period – Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih, headed by the former Zorya coach Yuriy Vernidub, therefore, in this minimal away defeat (0:1) you can find a share of romance. However, van Leeuwen’s players are definitely not up to sentiment now, as the position obliges a lot.

In fact, the Luhansk team is now in a very favorable situation, since further participation in the pursuit of gold depends solely on them, but at the same time, Shakhtar and Dnipro-1 will most likely be able to play the league title among themselves. However, even this alignment can be replayed during the next week, when Zorya will play against the Pitmen, and then they, in turn, will fight against SK.

Options are possible, and very advantageous for the “men”. But what they really can do this weekend is to leave Dynamo not only without the Champions League, but also without hopes for bronze. But here, too, the capital team will need to lose points in the game against Alexandria, which will begin three hours after ours.

Ingulets

Opposing Zorya this weekend is the fate of Petrovsky Ingulets. We are talking about the upcoming game in a doomed way in the context of the Cossacks solely because of the current state of the team of Sergei Kovalets. If I can put it this way, the Red-Yellows simply do not have these same conditions now, since the last time they won was in the game against Rukh Lviv exactly a month ago (1:0). We should not underestimate that success, since we are talking about a direct competitor in the standings, but we will not overestimate the fact of getting three points either – we managed to score only two points further.

In fact, worse than Ingulets with its current unsuccessful series, there is only one team – the hopeless Lvov, to which the same Rukh can sign a death sentence this weekend regarding the chances of further struggle for survival. It won’t make any special weather for the Cossacks, as they had few opportunities to use their chance to get away from the relegation zone lately, as they played against representatives of the top half of the standings.

But at Zorya, the series of really tough opponents should end, after which Ingulets will play head-on matches against Metalist 1925, Lvov and Veres. And just the number of points scored on the basis of these meetings will determine the fate of the team. The bottom of the UPL table is now very crowded, so 27 points and 11th place, which the Kovalets team has at the moment, do not mean anything at all – there are only five points to the penultimate position. And how wrong in this context goalkeeper Olexiy Palamarchuk was sent off in the last match against Shakhtar (0:2).

Meeting history

The football paths of Zorya and Ingulets have previously crossed nine times within the UPL and the Ukrainian Cup. The last time the teams played each other in an official match in November last year – a game in Kyiv at the UTK named after. Bannikova ended with the victory of the Petrovsky club (1:0). Maxim Marusich distinguished himself for Ingulets.

Themis

The main arbiter of the upcoming game will be 35-year-old Oleksandr Omelchenko from Slavyansk, who already has 26 matches in the “elite” division to his credit. Side referees will be Vladimir Zhurbida and Taras Klimenko, and Vladimir Novokhatniy will work as a reserve referee. The match will not have a VAR system. Omelchenko has experience in holding matches with the participation of Zorya – 4 wins, while he faced Ingulets nine times (3 wins, 1 draw, 5 losses).
