General Director of K2 Promotions Ukraine Alexander Krasyuk shared his opinion about the favorite of the upcoming fight for the absolute lightweight championship between the holder of all belts Devin Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) and Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko (17-2, 11 KOs).
“My opinion will not look like a lot of support from my side, because deep down I treat Lomachenko as my compatriot. No matter what he says and does, Vasily is still Ukrainian. I would like him to win, but this is a very risky fight for him. Two years ago, I would have blindly bet on Lomachenko. Now, after what happened in Ukraine and in his career, after the defeat, after the return and injuries, I will say that his chances have decreased. But he is a great warrior, a very skilled fighter. He can give a very good lesson to Devin Haney.
I don’t have a 100% prediction. I would probably say that the advantage is on Haney’s side because he is younger, more motivated and physically bigger. And he defends titles. But the main incentive for Vasily is the fight for the title of absolute champion, this is the dream of his life. His boxing brother Oleksandr Usyk has already become the undisputed cruiserweight champion. Vasily always dreamed of becoming an absolute. So this opportunity will give him an additional incentive in battle. But Haney is a dangerous opponent for him, I agree with the experts, ”Krasyuk said in an interview with the Bokserorg YouTube channel.
Haney vs Lomachenko will take place on May 20.
