Head of promotional company Matchroom Boxing Eddie Hearn shared his opinion on the result of the fight for the title of absolute world champion in lightweight between Vasily Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) and Devin Haney (30-0, 15 KOs).
“I didn’t see the full fight, but I followed it on Twitter. I also revised the highlights. I don’t like these conversations: “Oh, this is a robbery.” You ask a person what score he got, and he answers: “115-113 in favor of Lomachenko.” So it’s hardly a robbery. That’s your opinion. And it can easily be 115-113 in the other direction.
I think most people feel that Lomachenko won the fight. But sometimes in boxing people make decisions before the fight. They say that Loma was robbed, but the fight seemed very close to me. I think most people felt that 116-112 is too big of a difference. But I guess it’s about what you like,” Hearn said in an interview with iFL TV’s YouTube channel.
Note that on the night of May 20-21, Haney defeated Lomachenko in Las Vegas on points (116-112, 115-113, 115-113) and retained all his belts.
